Even though FT was out this for the weekend I had a great one. Friday night we went to the Hunt’s Reception (photo’s on Prilphoto.com this week some time) It was great to see a fun loving couple celebrate their special day in a fun way. They had carnival games and Pizza! It was a fun wedding we had to leave earlier because frank had to drive out for his trip. So it was an early but restful needed night. Oh not to mention Sonya’s B-day party Thursday night (why do people party on the work nights)?
So Saturday I wake up alone :( I have to say is the worse part about being away from FT, The waking up with him not there. I did get to sleep in though so it’s a tad bitter sweet! He he. Went up to the flea market where mom was set up for a booth and spoke with the hiking stick guy who will be making frank and I some hiking sticks.
On my way back from the flea market I ended up hitting up the bulk store for some candy for my lovely co workers and self. ;) Ended up finding some flavors for candy, so it motivated me to give making hard candy a try. You bet I went home and tried to make some as soon as I walked in the door.
Batch #1 failed – you have to boil it longer. WTF so I made a new batch Sunday night and boy did it turn out right this time. I’m proud of myself I have to add it’s tasty too! and I lost the recipe to make it so I just winged it. Things work out better when I do that. So here is what I used.
1 cup sugar
1/3rd cup light corn syrup
1/3rd cup plus a table spoon of water
1/4th teaspoon food coloring
1/4th teaspoon of flavoring (don’t use to much that crap isn’t good for you)
You mix the sugar corn syrup and water together over med heat until sugar is melted (stir frequently) Once it’s melted stop stirring crank up the heat to hottest ;) and boil no stirring (hard for me) once you reach a temp of 212 degree’s you can add the food coloring again no stirring the boiling will stir for you. Sadly my thermometer only goes to 200 so I just waited till then added food coloring. Now you’re to wait until the temp goes to 300 or something or do the cold water test. I suggest that test over a temp thing. Just take a teaspoon of syrup and drop it in cold water. If it runs then it’s not ready if it’s hard and brittle it’s ready or stuck to your spoon and glass it’s done!. Once it’s ready add the flavoring stir and pour QUICKLY into mold. It will be harden in a few minutes wait until its cooler to touch and brake apart then toss in powder sugar so they don’t stick.
So Frank enjoyed those candies I also shared with Jon and Alaina, They were our guest last night with tum tum he was being a handful. It’s so hard not to laugh at that kid when he is being mean , it’s cute. Get this while they were over I had a beer with them Bud light no lime. CRAZY! I even drank most of the thing not just a few sips!!! My fellow beer drinkers must be proud!
Oh and other news Frank and I broke down and got a professional hair clippers. So now it takes 2 3-minutes to cut his hair and that beats 30 minutes plus. Oh yeah and on Saturday night i was in the D at Toya's 40th b-day white party and she got engaged. so what is that my 4th or 5th engagement I seen. Congrats Toya and Steve you best be good to my girl!
